"I watched whole pallets of ripe strawberries get refused because they had two days left, not five. I knew the produce was still good, because I ate it myself, and I fed it to my kids. The issue is not food availability. It is preservation."
Preppy North was founded by Kelly Metzger, a Vancouver-based artist, mother, and entrepreneur with a deep appreciation for fresh, organic food. Through her work at a local organic produce distributor, Kelly saw firsthand how large volumes of perfectly edible fruits and vegetables were unable to reach market due to timing misalignments in the supply chain. The experience was both eye-opening and frustrating.
Driven by a desire to reduce food waste and build a more resilient future for the next generation, Kelly began exploring freeze drying as a solution. Preppy North was created to transform surplus organic produce into shelf stable ingredients, supporting local growers, reducing waste, and contributing to a more adaptable and sustainable food system.
